The Department of Chemistry, established in the year of inception of the college, 1984, caters to the needs of Engineering and Technology in the undergraduate level degree programmes. The students are imparted knowledge in fundamental aspects of Applied Chemistry, Environmental Science and are trained to acquire laboratory skills that will be useful for their further studies. The Department also offers research programmes at postgraduate level - a two-year degree programme leading to M.Phil. degree and Ph.D. degree on Part-time and Full-time basis. The Department has proposed to offer postgraduate programme, M.Sc. in Applied Chemistry from 2009-10 onwards.

Objectives
The objectives of the Department is to
• provide the students with a solid foundation in basics of Chemistry,
• enhance problem solving skills of students,
• ensure better quality of education by continuous monitoring, review of performance and counselling students,
• practice innovative teaching methods in university education at all levels and
• carry out research in areas related to teaching subjects;
